Ghostly Grilled Green Speckled Naan Recipe

Ghostly Grilled Green Speckled Naan Recipe
Naan is essential to go with Indian food, and believe it or not, it’s easy to make in the automatic bread machine. Once the dough is done, it’s easy to shape, since traditional Naan is actually shaped sort of like a ghost. I’ve adapted my favorite Naan recipe to make individual loaves that are slightly speckled green and cut the dough out with a ghost cookie cutter in this Ghostly Grilled Green Speckled Naan, and I grill it on my stove or outdoor grill. After grilling, it’s brushed with butter or ghee and sprinkled with cilantro, garlic, parsley, or other herbs. You can make this ahead and freeze it; brush it after warming.

I originally developed this recipe to go with a Halloween curry dish that I will serve at my annual Halloween BOO-ffet, Creepy Cannibal Curry, but it is good with any Indian food.

12 Ghosts

1 cup water
1 cup zucchini, finely chopped zucchini
1 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons ghee , or clarified butter
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
2/3 cup plain Greek non-fat yogurt

4 cups flour, (may need more)
1 tablespoon dry yeast

ghee , or clarified butter
chopped cilantro

  1. Place all dough ingredients in the order given into the pan of an automatic bread machine.
  2. Turn the machine to the dough setting and start. Check after 10 minutes to make sure there is enough flour to make a soft ball. The zucchini varies in liquid and can make the dough too soft. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour.
  3. When the cycle has finished, transfer to a lightly floured silicone mat or pasty cloth.
  4. Roll out as thin as possible. Cut ghosts from the dough with a 4-5" ghost cookie cutter.
  5. Heat a griddle or grill to medium high heat. When it is hot, place the ghosts on the griddle and let "bake" until golden on one side. Turn and bake until cooked through.
  6. If eating immediately, brush with more ghee and sprinkle with chopped cilantro, parsley, or other herbs. Otherwise, brush with ghee when the ghosts are reheated.
